Radiation damage in nuclear steels

Radiation damage determines the service life of essential components in a nuclear power plant, such as the pressure vessel of LWRs, or the fuel cladding tube of fast reactors.

In this project we apply density functional theory to investigate the basic physical mechanisms leading to radiation damage on an atomic scale, and use multi-scale modelling to better understand and eventually predict the consequence on a macroscopic scale.
